ITC helps UK’s largest dedicated neurological and neurosurgical hospital upgrade their specialised private wards

The Bloomsbury Private Ward at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, London was in need of a major refurbishment and modernisation programme. The hospital found the current ward’s layout was not working, had accessibility issues and desired a higher standard of finish.

ITC were appointed to completely remodel the ward, with the needs of patients and staff at the centre of the design. The project consisted of much needed general improvements to the wards infrastructure, including a complete refurbishment of all 17 bedrooms and a redesign of the bathrooms, to make them more accessible for patients.

Providing solutions from the start

Through early engagement with the client, ITC discovered there was a long lead time from the manufacturer of the Area Valve Service Unit (AVSU), which provides local isolation of individual parts of medical gases. Identifying the issue at tender stage, meant that the team were able to provide a solution, to eliminate a delay to the programme from the outset.

High quality finish for Bloomsbury Ward

The finished spaces have been completed in accordance with the latest healthcare buildings advice and guidance, and finished to the highest possible standards of safety and comfort.

The project was delivered on a New Engineering Contract, applying good project management principles and practice.

Upgraded M&E facilities to provide comfortable environment

There were a significant amount of MEP works on this project. The team carried out the supply, modification, installation, testing and commissioning of the following mechanical and electrical services:

  • Mains and domestic water systems
  • Ventilation
  • Heating
  • Medical gas systems
  • Sprinkler system
  • Above ground drainage
  • Local/ Automatic control
  • LV electrical distribution
  • General and emergency lighting
  • Fire detection and alarms
  • Earthing and bonding
  • Nurse and patient call
  • Access control
  • Telecommunication

I am delighted that we are able to provide such wonderful facilities, which we can be as proud of as the world-class treatment we are already offering to our patients.
