The Royal Automobile Club, Pall Mall
Type: Refurbishment
Duration: 13 weeks
Elegant dining room and kitchen refurbishment within the Grade II* listed building on Pall Mall for The Royal Automobile Club.
This project saw the combined fast track refurbishments of the Brooklands Room and kitchen for the Royal Automobile Club. The works were planned around events and over the clubs Christmas 2018 closure to minimise disruption for members including working on double shifts and through the weekends to complete demolition and noisy works before the club reopened for business in the New Year.
The Brooklands dining room was refurbished with contractor designed services installations, sympathetic restoration of mouldings to the both ceilings and walls, prior to a comprehensive redecoration of the building fabric. A bespoke carpet design was commissioned with specialist Versaille timber flooring being installed in the balance of the space. A strong focus was made to retain features including the existing chandeliers being taken down for comprehensive cleaning, overhauling and upgrading to incorporate LED lighting technology. The Brooklands room also had new bespoke joinery, seating and bars with brass work installed and the fitted wall artworks received extensive refurbishments from a fine art and conservation company.
Works to the kitchen started with a complete strip-back to the shell. Two weeks into the project we discovered that the existing screed had perished, and had to adapt the programme to include the removal of 40 tonnes of the existing screed, and the replacement before the kitchens could be installed.
With both speed and precision at the forefront of the client’s requirements, all trades had to collaborate and co-ordinate works including; plumbing, electrics, fire rated ductwork, tiled floor finishes, extract canopies, new partitions, hygienic wall finishes and suspended ceilings though out.
The works were completed to the club’s critical booking dates and high-quality standards for reopening the venue, and was well received by both staff and club members alike. Thank you to all of the team involved in building this great project together!
