High-end refurbishment of world’s third-tallest student halls of residence, London
Type: Design and build refurbishment
Value: £2.4m
Duration: 36 weeks
As the world’s third-tallest student halls of residence, Nido Spitalfields required new spaces and refurbishment to continue to attract its high-end clientele.
The basement car park was transformed to provide new gym space, a post room, storage and staircase. An extensive reconfiguration took place on the ground floor which now boasts an open and welcoming entrance gallery with double height reception area, a variety of social areas with eclectic atmosphere-creating decoration and fitments, games room, cinema and café, and new toilet facilities.
An extension into the courtyard provides a new auditorium with EFTE roof, sliding wall, and acoustic panelling featuring a striking chancel design. On the 32nd and 33rd floors, an existing café was removed and replaced with a new bar, games areas and a catering kitchen with counter and café seating.
A gym was removed to make way for a new external terrace with glass walkway providing stunning views over London, and previously unused areas were opened up to create quiet study spaces. Extensive M&E works were undertaken to adapt, modify and install new services to the respective areas.
Each section of the building had a different design which drew on different eras and nationalities, and featured a huge range of high-end specialist joinery, lighting, fixtures and fittings.
This challenging, phased project was undertaken whilst the building was fully occupied with all the hustle and bustle of student life. We are proud to have delivered a first-class project for our client, which they and the students have been delighted by.
