ITC transforms existing healthcare centre to better serve the local community.
North Wood Medical Group wanted to modernise and increase the size of their GP surgery in West Norwood to ensure it met the long term needs of the community.
ITC transformed this tired medical centre by building 3 new extensions to the existing building, giving the Medical Group more space and making the building more accessible for patients. It now provides 4 additional consulting rooms, a new reception, treatment rooms, meeting rooms, mother and baby room, multipurpose rooms, confidential room, PC workstations, storage facilities and break out spaces.
The project required a range of building services installations from data and power services, new AC, lift access, additional fire exits replaced steps and a fully compliant assisted toilet. Part of our solution also included the installation of the heating and ventilation system. Externally, the team installed a bicycle shelter and vehicle charge points.
Collaboration on modern design
ITC delivered this impressive scheme working collaboratively with the client and sub-contractor teams, to cost up budget, design, develop and set out time scales.
Community engagement
ITC was actively involved with the local community. Our team visited the local primary school, to discuss the project and highlight the different careers within the construction industry to Year 6 pupils. We also had a dedicated Traffic Marshall who ensured everyone stayed safe when we were receiving deliveries in this busy residential area.
This project is also a part of the Considerate Constructors Scheme, which focuses on best practice beyond statutory requirements. On this project, we placed great emphasis on respecting the community, caring for the environment and valuing the workforce.
A sustainable practice
The finished spaces provide optimum user conditions, whilst minimising daily running and maintenance costs. Solar panels were installed, generating power feeding back to the grid, to help conserve energy.
Modernised medical practice offers high-quality primary care services for local community
The ITC team are delighted to support NHS Property Services and North Wood Medical Group achieve their aspiration; a modern and first calls premises for their patients who are registered with practice.
We are delighted that this project achieved ‘Very Good’ BREEAM rating. The project also won “Most Social Value Project” at the Institution of Structural Engineers Northern Counties Structural Awards 2022.
