Building world class studio facilities
Dated and in need of refurbishment, ITC transformed the 3rd floor spaces at Penrhyn Road into a contemporary workspace for postgraduate students. The paired back industrial look achieved here, provides a blank canvas for creative exploration and displaying student art work.
ITC built four new art studios, break out spaces, and toilets. The works took place whilst the building was occupied and comprised of the installation of new partitions, folding walls, flooring, doors, lighting, secondary glazing, window blinds, retractable power units and Audio-Visual equipment.
‘no ceiling’ concept
The project had a ‘no ceiling’ concept with exposed services to open up the spaces, maximise light and to provide more ceiling height. This type of look can be particularly challenging in existing buildings, where structural beams and existing services need to be taken into consideration. Careful planning when setting out the mechanical and electrical services was key to the team successfully achieving a visually balanced, modular environment on the ceiling.
The ITC team worked collaboratively with the Kingston University’s Estates team to achieve a smooth delivery, working to the agreed budget and finishing on time.
“ITC are a professional company who are enjoyable and easy to work with. The project was managed well, and the ITC team were always keen to get the quality correct.”
