Reconfigured, open plan, loft style office space in prime Brighton location

Bostel House is located within the busy shopping district of Brighton. With occupied retail units on the ground floor, the office space above required extensive refurbishment. With a view to increasing the net lettable floor space, this project involved the construction of a modern glazed extension to the roof, internal structural alterations and refurbishment of existing floors.

This design and build contract involved complex steel work to the roof to create the new extension, adding 2,767 Sq Ft of lettable office space. We also carried out a complete external refurbishment of the building, including new and refurbished windows; external rendering and decorations and a full refurbishment of the Bostel House sign

All 3 floors were fitted out to a Cat A standard, with new M & E services, ceilings, wall linings, raised access flooring and decorations. The existing plant room in the basement was refurbished and a new plant enclosure was built on the roof. A newly designed entrance lobby area was created, and new showers and WC’s were installed to each floor.

Bostel House is landlocked which made it a challenging location to carry out the works. Careful planning and co-ordination with both the council and the local shopping centre was required to minimise disruption which resulted in out of hours crane lifts to the roof of the building and hanging scaffold to access the south elevation of the building.

This extensive programme of works has breathed new life in to a building that was falling into disrepair, creating flexible, modern and upgraded office space that compliments the character of the building.
